How to apply for funding

To ensure that the most effective use is made of charitable funds, all applications are peer reviewed. However, without compromising scientific standards, we try to work in a more flexible and interactive fashion than the larger and publicly-funded sources of research support are able to do.

Applicants should be aware that, due to limited resources, we do not automatically acknowledge applications and that, although we endeavour to process applications as quickly as possible, we are unable to guarantee review completion dates. Please refer to the notes on our peer review procedures for further details.

Deafness Research UK Committees meet quarterly (January, April, July and October) and applications are considered at each meeting.

However, applications may be submitted at any time and where project-level funding is sought, applicants are advised to submit proposals as early as possible, regardless of meeting dates.

All applicants are advised to refer to the guidance notes for applicants before submitting an application.

In the interests of efficiency, new applicants or previous applicants planning research in an area not previously funded are advised to submit a preliminary request form before submitting a more detailed application. This is particularly important for project grant applications (£15,000 or over).

All applications should be in writing on the appropriate form and submitted both as hard copy (original plus one photocopy) and electronically.

Please refer to our full grant application procedures (doc file, 135kb) and types of award for further details.
